MEMORIES #30/31/32/33 (ahhhh)
Scree so behind. But three of these four memories are HIGHLY important and so the writeup must happen before she can take them and I can play her woo!
#30 is the meeting with Mami in episode 2, after Mami saves their lives from the witch. This memory is very important in canon but it's basically just an infodump of stuff she already knows in Aather, so I'm offscreening that she already took this one because it has essentially zero effect other than some EXTRA MAMIDERE! Mami saves Sayaka and Madoka and leads them to her apartment and gives them snacks and explains what a Soul Gem is (kind . . . of), what a magical girl is, what a witch is, and so on. Kyuubey is there and is a ~helper~. Sayaka finds out a little about how they operate and what a witch's maze is. Mami warns them about how serious it is to be a magical girl and invites them on a witch hunt (which Sayaka already remembers happening). That's about it for this; there's nothing Sayaka didn't know, though some of it is expressed more clearly here.
#31 is Sayaka breaking down on Madoka about being DEAD!!! The night after Sayaka hears about Kyouko's wish (and finds out what her Soul Gem REALLY is, and finds out Hitomi loves Kamijo, WORST DAY EVER), she leaves her house to hunt witches and finds Madoka outside; Madoka offers to go with her, and Sayaka breaks down, asking why Madoka is so nice to her when she doesn't deserve it. She admits that she's started having regrets and that she'd considered for an instant what would have happened if she hadn't saved Hitomi's life from a witch in episode 4. She claims she's a failure as a hero and can't face Mami now. Madoka runs over and hugs her, and Sayaka cries on her about how Hitomi is taking Kamijo away and Sayaka can't stop it, since she's nothing but a corpse and can't hug or kiss him with a dead body. Then she seemingly pulls herself together, claiming she just needed to get all of that out of her system, and heads off with Madoka to hunt witches.
Which segues DIRECTLY into memory #32, fighting Elsa Maria. NICE HOW THAT WORKS. Elsa Maria is a memory that kind of has to be seen to get it, and it happens to be up on Youtube, so. HERE YA GO. This is the bloody Blu-Ray version, so minor gore warning here. The memory continues in episode 8: as Elsa's maze breaks down, Sayaka's body autoheals all its wounds, and Sayaka muses aloud that it's easy once you figure out that you can just let yourself get hurt all you want and ignore the pain of the fight, fighting brutally until the witch goes down. She gives Kyouko the grief seed from the fight, dehenshins, and nearly passes out from having overexerted herself during the battle. Madoka helps her head home, and that's the end of this one.
#33 is her last conversation with Homura in episode 8. This is something she already knows happened from Kyouko remembering it. It starts with Sayaka fighting a familiar (in much the same fashion as she did Elsa Maria), and then being approached by Homura, who tells her she has no power to spare and needs to focus on Grief Seeds and not familiars. Homura offers her a Grief Seed, but Sayaka kicks it away; she doesn't trust Homura and refuses her help, suspecting her of plotting something. Sayaka insists she won't cooperate with girls like Homura and Kyouko who take advantage of others (e.g. allowing familiars to become witches so they can get Grief Seeds). Homura tells her she'll die, and Sayaka insists she'll only die when she can't fight anymore, since that's all her body is good for now, so she doesn't care if she dies when that happens. Homura asks why she won't accept help; Sayaka says it's because she can tell Homura has actually given up and doesn't want to help her for her own sake at all. Homura admits that Sayaka's right and everything she does is actually for Madoka--she just doesn't want Madoka to witness Sayaka's suffering anymore. Homura prepares to execute Sayaka since Sayaka still refuses her help, but Kyouko butts in and restrains Homura while Sayaka makes her getaway. The end!
So all of this is going to be a HUGE infodump/turning point for Sayaka memory-wise; she already has the feeling that something goes Really Wrong from one of her own memories that seemed "off" and from what Kyouko's told her, but this will give her the full breakdown of why it happened and the direction she was headed in, though the conclusion of it isn't here yet. This is all going to fuck with her a lot so . . . yes . . . gosh.
